Bloc +

Welcome back guys! Onto to our next target… Bloc!

Bloc, Bar Bloc, Bloc +, whatever you want to call it- this Bath St. venue acts as a restaurant, bar and a music venue which is pretty cool. Would recommend Bloc for a boogie if you've not been yet, but I'd never been for food.

What makes Bloc appealing for food is its daily deals~ £3 Pasta Mondays, £3 Burger Tuesdays, £5 Steak Wednesdays, £4 Kentucky Thursdays and £4 Bloc+ Dog Friday. (Now before someone has a go at me I'm WELL AWARE these aren't TECHNICALLY student deals but they're very cheap so really you should thank me x )

SO. We went a Wednesday for that good 5 dolla steak. I figured there was no way they'd give you a decent piece of meat for that price so thought it was worth checking out.

We got there around half one and it was PACKED. Apparently everyone and their cousin in Glasgow knows about this deal. That being said the host was pretty great, taking my name and getting us a table within 7(ish) minutes.

(((this was particularly exciting because last time I attempted this deal I did not even make it as far as getting a table)))

Sat down, got us some pints of Innis & Gunn(alcohol isn't included in this deal so you've got to budget an extra £4-5 for that) ordered and of course our steaks.

The student deal consists of: a 6oz Scottish sirloin steak cooked how you like with seasoned fries, a grilled tomato, Portobello mushroom and peppercorn sauce for £5.

Student deal with no extras (Mayonnaise not included but Ross couldn't wait 2 seconds could he)

You can also add caramelized onion for a singular quid or poutine up your fries for £2 (which of course I did (still wild)).

So the disappointing part of this meal was the wait. Now I completely understand how busy it was and that the staff was overwhelmed (and were actually doing so well regardless tbh). But watching 2-3 tables who got in after us get served before us was heartbreaking.

After about 45 minutes, we got our steaks (yaaaass) only to realise that they forgot the peppercorn sauce (naaah). The host gave us 2 extra large portions of peppercorn sauce to make up for it (yaaaas).
A rollercoaster of emotions honestly.

However because we were so bloody hungry I forgot to take photos with the peppercorn sauce lol sorry it was really nice too.

So let's review some food!! The steak was honestly fantastic. Very very worth the fiver. The peppercorn sauce was amazing and went super well with the steak. Having poutined my fries can say was yum but probably wouldn't do again. Was just too many flavours on my plate yanno?

If you close one eye and squint really hard you can see the poutine under the steak

The only questionable part of the meal was the singular half grilled tomato… Not really sure what its purpose was. Looked kinda sad on our plates.

LET'S RATE!

Taste: 9/10 (some savvy student scrumptious steak)
Choice: 6/10 (I mean if you're coming to Bloc on a Wednesday you are coming for this deal)'
Ambience: 7/10 (Made me feel a lot cooler than I am)
Service: 5/10
Value for Money: 10/10 (again, a fiver for a steak come on)
Alcohol Factor: FAIL
Omg our first alcohol factor fail… A shame.

OVERALL: 7.4
