Topolabamba

Hola and welcome back amigos. Onto our next student deal- Topolabamba!

Now this is a pretty well-known lil Mexican spot that never goes amiss in Glasgow. I’ve heard a lot about the student deal but had yet to try it out. We went a Sunday afternoon and it was fairly busy, however it’s a pretty big place so really didn’t feel cramped at all. Also a hot spot for all you aesthetic lovers out there- there are some dang nice lights.

First impression- INSTANT brownie points to the constant Shakira playlist. Loved me some 2009 She Wolf vibes.

We sat down and were given a menu but had to ask for the student deal menu (bit of a shameful moment as the waiter realised we were poor). It’s not a proper menu per se but a cute lil flyer that does the job.

The student deal consists of: Either 2 Sol beers or 2 Margaritas (Original, Green Apple or Fresh Watermelon) with a burrito or a quesadilla for £10.

So the two of us got 2 Sol, a Fresh Watermelon Margarita, an Original Margarita, a chicken tinga burrito, chicken tinga quesadillas and an additional Queso Fundido for £4.95 (because we’re still wild like that).

Choice-wise, so you've got your burrito or your quesadilla yes but WAIT. You've got to choose your filling! And let me tell you the combinations are endless.

See? 1 student deal, 10 possible meal choices. WILD.

Service was pretty fantastic- we waited about 5 minutes for our drinks, 5 minutes more for the Queso Fundido and 5 minutes after for our burrito and quesadillas. Muy bueno.

To keep you busy during your wait though you're given pencils and are encouraged (?) to write/draw on the walls. Not too sure how this fits in with the Mexican theme but I'm 100% behind this. Nothing like wall writing to set the mood.

Honestly have minimal negative things to say about the food itself. The queso was unreal, the burrito was yummy (could use some guac but £2.50 extra is a bit steep for your gal), and the margarita and beer were delightful. My boyfriend barely acknowledged me during his devouring of the quesadillas so I'm gonna take that as being a success too.

£10 for a filling main, and not one but TWO alcohols?! This deal is WILD and knows what the people want.

So let’s judge:

Taste: 8/10 (only because it was slightly spicy for my Caucasian taste buds)
Choice: 8/10 (did I mention the 10 possible combinations?)
Ambience: 9/10 (Shakira Shakira)
Service: 10/10 (Fabulosa)
Value for Money: 8/10
Alcohol Factor: DOUBLE PASS

OVERALL: 8.6
